KARACHI: A special anti-terrorism court (ATC) ordered on Thursday to block the CNICs of two suspects who are on the run, in a case pertaining to the murder of two police officials.

An arrested accused, Mirza Omar, could not be presented before the court as, according to the investigation officer (IO), it was a high-profile case and there were security concerns about Omar's appearance in court.

The court gave orders to block the CNICs of accused Shaikh Moin alias Arbaz and Areeb Hussain, both of whom are on the run, and directed the IO to present the arrested and missing accused at the next hearing.

According to the IO, intelligence reports state that militants from banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi are responsible for the murder of police officials Allah Dino and Ahmed Ali, who were shot dead by two assailants on a motorcycle in Orangi Town on June 17.

Counter-terrorism department police had arrested Omar for the possession of illegal weapons, after which he confessed to involvement in the murder case. He claimed that Areeb Hussain, Shaikh Moin, Shaikh Mumtaz alias Firaun, Mamnoon Hussain and Munazim alias Bawli were also involved in the murder. Areeb and Moin are on the run while the remaining accused were reportedly killed in an encounter with security forces in Quetta.
