ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday upheld appointment of pop singer, Abrarul Haq as chairman of Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS).

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah presided the hearing of the petition filed against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader’s appointment as chairman of the organisation.

Earlier in the day, federal prosecutor, Additional Attorney General Tariq Mehmood Khokhar argued before the court that the rules regarding appointment of the chairman have been amended.

To this, Justice Minallah remarked that these are administrative matters which the prime minister has to run.

IHC reinstates Elahi as PRCS chairman

IHC issued a stay order against Haq’s appointment as chairman of PRCS.

President Dr Arif Alvi, in his capacity as head of the PRCS, removed Dr Elahi, who is also Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secretary in cabinet division, and appointed Haq for a period of three years.

The petition filed by Dr Elahi said he was appointed as chairman for a period of three years till March 9, 2020, while the appointment of a new chairman before the said date was illegal.

Dr Elahi was appointed by the PML-N government as the PRCS chairman in 2014 and granted an extension for another term in 2017.
