Sacred Games co-star calls out Saif Ali Khan for being ignorant
Aamir Bashir referenced their characters from the Netflix show in his tweet
Actor Saif Ali Khan's recent comments regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in India, have irked a few people on social media, including Sacred Games co-star Aamir Bashir. Saif in an interview with the Press Trust of India talked about his lack of clarity around the situation.
Bashir subsequently called out Saif on Twitter by referencing their characters from the Netflix hit.
"For f*** sake !!! talk to Majid, Sartaj! Even #Gaitonde knew his s***" he tweeted. Bashir plays Majid on the show who is the rival turned friend of Saif's character Sartaj. Both characters through the course of the two seasons were seen constantly butting heads in the show. Many people joined Bashir on the Twitter thread in mocking Saif including Pakistani actor Shaan Shahid who posted a poster of the 1991 Hollywood film Silence of the lambs.
Saif in the interview had responded to criticism for not being vocal about the situation in India, noting that he still needed better understanding before making up his mind.
“I would like the protest to be associated with exactly what I am protesting against. There might be a possibility that I will end up representing a different kind of protest. So I am not sure yet. Until I am sure what I am protesting against and whether it is going to be taken that way, I need to think more" he said.
“There is so much being written in the press, there are so many things that give us concern about what we are reading. India will be defined by either the judiciary or the government or ultimately the people and we will know in what kind of environment we are living in. But it is still a little... That is dwelling on what I am reading and what I am told.”
He also dismissed criticism against Bollywood celebrities that have remained silent on the matter. “It is everybody’s right to protest peacefully and everybody’s right not to” he said.
The CAA has attracted intense criticism for being discriminatory towards the country’s 200+ million Muslims. 21 protesters have since died in the protests that followed, according to Al Jazeera.
Several Bollywood personalities have gone on to speak up against the matter including Farhan Akhtar, Parineeti Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Rajkummar Rao, Varun Dhawan, Sidhart Malhotra, Ayushmann Khurrana , Vicky Kaushal and more recently Bashir.
