QUETTA:
Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani cut a cake at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta on the occasion of Christmas. Provincial Finance Minister Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, provincial ministers, elected representatives and members of the Christian community attended the Christmas ceremony in large numbers. Addressing the gathering, the Balochistan chief minister said nobody could deny the role of minorities in the country’s development and progress, especially that of the Christian community.
“The government of Pakistan reserved a minimum job quota of five per cent for minorities on May 26, 2009 which was followed by similar measures from the provincial governments. The Balochistan government is also fully committed to providing jobs for minorities on their reserved quota”, said Jam Kamal Khan.
Special prayers were made during the ceremony for the welfare of humanity as well as the development and progress of the province, country and the world.
"Christmas reminds us that God continues to love us all, even the worst of us. God does not love you because you think and act the right way. He just loves you, plain and simple. His love is unconditional - it does not depend on you", he added.
Christmas is celebrated every year on December 25 to honour the birth of Jesus Christ. Although it is mainly observed by Christians, it has in the current era surpassed religious boundaries and become a symbol of a holistic culture.
The month of December, therefore, carries a festive feeling, with celebrations usually beginning well before and continuing for around two weeks after Christmas Day.
It is a festival cherished and loved by adults and kids alike. People also set up Christmas trees in their homes and decorate them with colourful balls, ribbons and red socks, and shops and showrooms display glittering red and white colours to set up the Christmas mood.
