Sit-in: Angry nurses protest against the death of colleague

A dozen nurses boycotted the in and out patient departments for allegedly not providing Zahida proper medical care.

SUKKUR:

The death of a nurse, Zahida, at Civil hospital led her colleagues to protest on Monday.

Nearly a dozen nurses boycotted the in-patient and out-patient departments. They gathered outside the main gate and chanted slogans against the doctors and administration for allegedly not providing Zahida proper medical care.

“She had high fever and was admitted on Sunday. Zahida died because the doctor who was on duty did not pay any attention to her,” alleged nurse Laila.

The protest came to an end when the nurses met Civil hospital Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Hazoor Bux Tunio. He assured them that an inquiry would be conducted. While talking to The Express Tribune, Tunio said that Zahida was a trainee nurse. “Her fever had shot up to 106 degrees. We provided her with all the facilities we could, but her temperature did not subside. She passed away in the morning because of the high fever,” he said.
