QUETTA:

Wapda’s Nisar Ahmed clinched the Quetta-Ziarat National Cycling Championship after he completed the 122-kilometre route in three hours and 19 minutes, quicker than 40 other cyclists.

While Ahmed bagged the gold medal, SSGC’s Habibullah secured the second position for covering the distance in three hours 19 minutes and two seconds while Wapda’s Mohammad Ibrahim finished third with a five-second difference. “It was a good experience to have the race this season,” Ahmed told The Express Tribune. “The course was tough and we had to be careful,” added Ahmed.

The event, which concluded yesterday and involved covering a distance from Quetta to Ziarat through Pishin, was organised by the Pakistan Cycling Federation in collaboration with its Balochistan chapter to promote peace in the province.

Seven teams took part in the championship including the sports departments of Wapda, Sui Southern Gas Corporation and Pakistan Railways along with four provincial teams and Fata.
