ISLAMABAD: Capital police claimed to have arrested 25 people for alleged possession of liquor and drugs, a police spokesman said on Saturday.
According to a police statement, on special orders of the IGP Aamir Zulfqar Khan, Operations DIG Waqaruddin had issued directions to all zonal officers to control sale of drugs and liquor in the capital.
During last 24 hours, Islamabad police accelerated their efforts and arrested 25 suspects.
Aabpara police arrested Saneel Masih for possessing four bottles of liquor, while Khanna police caught Nadeem Masih for having three bottles of liquor.
While police also arrested three bike thieves namely Waseem Abbasi, Fahim and Abdul Rahim and recovered two stolen bikes from them. Bhara Kahu police arrested accused Basit Mehmood and recovered one 30 bore pistol from him.
Kohsar police arrested Shafique Masih and recovered 240 grammes of hashish from him.
Banigalla police apprehended Imran, Kamran, Arslan violating section144. Homicide police arrested killer namely Baitullah and recovered murder weapon, a 30 bore pistol, from him. Tarnol police arrested Khalid Mehmood and Rashid and recovered 530 grammes of hashish from them. Shalimar police arrested Adnan Muzfar and recovered 14 liquor bottles from him.
Ramana police arrested Shamshad with two kilogram hashish and 20 grammes of methamphetamine ice from him. Khana police arrested Naeem Khan Fazal Rehim, Wasib Nawaz and Kamran and recovered two 30 bore pistols and 20 litres of homemade liquor from them.
Koral police arrested Abdul Manan and recovered one 30 bore pistol from him, Sihala police arrested six people violating section 144. Cases have been registered against all nominated accused and further investigation is underway from them.
Operations DIG Waqaruddin has said that these social evils would be curbed and those backing those drug peddlers and professional beggars would be dealt with iron hands.
Police to verify detainees’ biometrics
The Punjab police have been directed to get suspects’ biometrics verified by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) before shifting them to prisons across the province.
A source told that the after the new directives, jail authorities will not accept any suspects without a certified copy of their biometric verification. The decision has been taken in light of orders of Lahore High Court (LHC). The source added that the Punjab Inspector General (IG) Jails issued directives to the jails administrations across the province to convey the given orders to the station house officers through district police officers.
The prison managements have clarified to the police officials that no suspects could be shifted to jails if the directives were not implemented.
A copy of an individual’s CNIC or Form B is mandatory with a small fee to have biometrics verified by Nadra. The jail authorities had no system in place to verify the identities of prisoners. The provincial authorities sought assistance from the federal government and Nadra.
