RAWALPINDI:
The Rawalpindi Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) remained impressive during 2019 contrary to the mediocre performance of Rawalpindi police during the same period, officials said quoting data.

The statistics showed that CTD police station in Rawalpindi registered 35 cases related to terrorism during 2019.

Owing to the professionalism in the investigation and prompt preparation of charge-sheets against the suspects, the department succeeded in procuring the decisions in 31 cases from the special anti-terrorism courts (ATCs). Only four terrorism cases, which are under proceeding in ATCs, will be carried over to the next year including the murder case of Punjab’s ex-interior Minister Shuja Khanzada.

During the outgoing year, the CTD achieved another landmark as the construction of the CTD police station, which remained pending for as many as six years, was also completed. The SHO and the investigation team got a permanent place to perform their duties.

Meanwhile, the offices of Superintended Police and Regional office would be completed next year.

Further, the construction of the CTD complex near Sagri Mor is also in its final phase and expected to be completed by April 2020. The new complex is also going to have an accommodation facility for the employees.

Meanwhile, the CTD police station in Rawalpindi is no less than a dumping ground for the senior inspectors who were transferred there to perform duties as investigation officers for a duration of two-three years.

However, some of them managed to get themselves transferred to other stations across Punjab allegedly by using political influence while those without having any connections within the department have been serving at the same police station for years.
