Nutrition screening programme launched

Screening of more than 50,000 students in public schools will be completed

The Chief Minister’s School Health Nutrition Screening programme has been started across the province, said Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid.

“The blood screening programme has been started from Sargodha division and under the programme screening of more than 50,000 students in public sector schools across Punjab would be completed.

She stated this while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the health programme at Government Higher Secondary School, Jevan Miana village on Friday.

Punjab Education Minister Dr Murad Ras, Minister for Labour and Human Resources Ansar Majeed Niazi, Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Iftikhar Hussain, primary and secondary healthcare secretary, officials of district administration and others were also present on the occasion.

The provincial minister said the screening programme was started as a pilot project in the central Model School, Lahore after which the programme was completed successfully in 11 public sector schools in the provincial capital, while now it has been launched across Punjab.

The provincial minister highlighted that mobile units comprised of doctors, dispensers, ultrasound machines and x-ray machine have been shifted to all nine divisions in the province and all facilities of screening were also available in the mobile free of cost.

“After screening report of the students, they will be referred to the nearest government hospitals where free medical facilities along with free medicines would be provided to them.”

She said in the second phase of the programme, students of private schools would also be provided such facilities and proper nutritional arrangements would also be arranged for these students. In the next two years period, the health history of 50,000 students would be made computerised and every student would get a health card to avail free medical facilities from any hospital across Punjab.

These employees include 14,000 doctors, 5,000 nurses, and 5,000 paramedical staff while hiring process of 10,000 staffers was also underway, he explained.
