Award-winning Hollywood director Christopher Nolan is back at what he does best with a sneak peak into his upcoming highly-anticipated film, Tenet.

The first trailer release shows the film may just be Nolan's most ambitious film to date, by going back to his time-travelling and sci-fi roots that have earned him international credibility, such as Interstellar and Inception, reported The Verge.

Tenet is set within the world of international espionage, where the first trailer finally lets fans see more light shed on the iconic director's 11th film.

The story-line has been kept under wraps for quite sometime before Tenet's recent first trailer release. Twilight star Robert Pattinson is also revealed to star in the upcoming film as well as Bollywood star Dimple Kapadia.

The first trailer sheds some light on the story-line, which has been kept under wraps for quite some time. It seems like Monster and Men star John David Washington’s character is trying to prevent a third World War, but it’s unclear what that entails.

Like other Nolan projects, an element of time travel will be included in order for Washington to achieve his goal. That means meeting up with characters played by beloved actors Nolan has worked with in the past, like Hollywood veteran Michael Caine.

Hrithik Roshan's 'Super 30' picked up by Hollywood for a remake?

The trailer includes some beautiful shots, which was apparently filmed in seven different countries.

Unlike Dunkirk, Nolan’s 2017 film about the heroic rescue mission that took place in France during the Second World War, Tenet has more in common with Nolan’s previous films.

There are elements of Inception, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, which is the director's critically acclaimed and beloved heist-within-dreams film from 2010. The trailer also includes wisps of  2000 crime hit Memento.

Warner Bros. is also releasing a longer prologue for the film, which will play before Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in certain IMAX theaters.

A previous, much shorter teaser was screened in theaters, but leaks published to Twitter and YouTube were taken down quickly. Tenet is set to hit cinemas in July 2020.
