LHC dismisses contempt petition against PM Gilani

LHC dismissed a petition that sought a contempt of court notice for the PM over his remarks on the president's dual office.

LAHORE:

Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissed a petition that sought a contempt of court notice for Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani over his remarks on the president's dual office.

The contempt of court petition was filed against the prime minister by Engineer Ghulam Jilani.

Gilani spoke publicly against case of dual offices of President Asif Zardari which is still pending in the LHC.

Ghulam Jilani stated that the prime minister made remarks about president’s dual office, which amounted to contempt of court.

The petition was heard by a five-member bench headed by Justice Ijaz Chaudry.

The court remarked that Gilani's statement does not affect court proceedings as the government has the same arguments in the dual office case, adding that a contempt of court action can not be taken against him.

On the courts remarks, the petitioner withdrew his petition, with the court disposing it off shortly after.
