All documentary evidence against former president Pervez Musharraf in the Nawab Akbar Bugti murder case has been lost, the lawyer pleading on behalf of Akbar Bugti’s eldest son, Jamil Bugti, has told The Express Tribune.
The federal cabinet, in a meeting in Quetta last Wednesday, decided to constitute a judicial commission under the supervision of a Supreme Court judge to probe the murder of Akbar Bugti. The commission, however, was promptly rejected by Jamil Bugti who said he had no expectations from the incumbent government.
Advocate Shakil Hadi told The Express Tribune that all evidence against the former military ruler and six others accused of murder is not traceable due to the negligence on part of the police and other relevant authorities of the provincial government.
Jamil Bugti, while rejecting the probe commission said the prime minister’s decision to investigate his father’s killing by a judicial commission was aimed at sabotaging Balochistan High Court’s proceedings on the same matter.
The advocate said that the commission was set up when the high court had asked for issuance of red warrants against the accused, but the federal government contended that it could be done only after a formal request from the Balochistan government.
Former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, Balochistan former governor Owais Ahmed Ghani, former interior minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao and Balochistan former chief minister Jam Yousaf are among the accused in the FIR lodged by Jamil Bugti.
Hadi said the police have so far not been able to produce its record pertaining to the murder before the court. “The whole case has been spoiled by the police that was supposed to investigate the matter,” he added. Hadi said that neither the home department nor the crime branch of the police knew who had lost the record.
The police and the district administration of Kohlu, where Nawab Bugti was killed in 2006 as a result of a military operation, have been blaming each other for the loss of the case files. The tehsildar of Kohlu claimed that he had sent the record to the police in 2006, but even after five years the records haven’t been received, Bugti’s lawyer said.

There is no such thing as "evidence" against Musharraf. Bugti was killed fair and square while fighting Pak army.
@Zarrak Khan Jalozai:
Well there are dozens if not hundreds of "private armies, militias and lashkars" if you wanna call them in Pakistan.
In the case of Akbar Bugti despite his controversial status he was a former governor of the state and the most prominent politician from Balochistan. The state owes its people a debt to investigate and bring to justice those responsible for his demise.
Those asking for a probe and trial have legitimate reasons to do so.These include people from all provinces who have serious concerns on the manner of Bugti's death. This PPP goverment has been unable to bring to a close Benazir's for s case,Bugti is another case still pending.
As for the reaction amongst some baloch to target innocent migrants from other provinces,it will not resolve the issue to bring justice. They need to work with the same people rather then against them if they want justice.
@Zarrak Khan Jalozai: Spot on, Sir!
Please stop political victimization of Musharraf.
Windy chamberlin ,the former US ambassador reported: "Mushgarraf always wanted best for his people:"
There is no evidence against him for either corruption or murder of Benazir or Bugti. This is fact and there was no evidence to begin with .
On the other hand Bugti's son has put money for Musharraf head infront of media. Theer is thus clear evidence who is / going to be murdered .I will death penalty for this kind of terror threats which are absolutely illegal
@Mr. Shahryar only knows about the punjabi's killing, but he doesn't know about the abduction of Baloch youth and throwing their mutaliated bodies by the punjabi led ISI and Army, am i right Mr. Shahryar.
Give one example where any development work done by any tribal leader of Baluchistan....hv they built any school in any of their tribal area,,,NO...because these tribal leaders themselves do not want their own area people to get educated because they will loose control over their own people....this is how they think & act...then they complain that their area is backward in all respect...these tribal leaders themselves are obstacle in development because development means end of slavery...that is how these tribal leaders remain in power & advantage of this sense of depreviation is being exploited by self-interest groups...?? let the govt undertake massive development work & then see the hue & cry by these same elements...Gawadar is an example....after development of port...has any employement given to locals....NO...because the local Gawadar tribal leader did not allow any of their people to take up jobs & the Gawadar Port Authority had to get people from Karachi to run the port...then these same leaders exploit the issues to keep them in power....this is the fate of Baluchistan.
If you want peace in Pakistan be peaceful and not menacing. Nawab Bugti was nothing more than a powerful tribal chief turned politician and later gone completely rogue, challenging the writ of the government, taking law into his old hands and inflicting damage amounting to billions of rupees on state-owned infrastructure in Pakistan. This whole affair is well-known to the Pakistani public. I, for one, have no sympathy for such a man — however, the better path was to arrest and charge him in a court of law.
These are no justifications for the repeated killing of Baloch sardars.
Baluchistan has its integrity, and it's ought to be respected, and the due rights given.
I wonder when I look at the continuous fury of Allah wrath on our 'Islamic' country, but when I look at the deeds of the people, then all falls into its place.
I dont think he can be tried in this... If he did get convicted it will be the same as Bhutto was in 1979.
Akber Bugti died while fighting against the armed forces of Pakistan. Under the constitution of Pakistan, Armed Forces of Pakistan can operate against the private armies and has the right of self defence. So !!!! Under which constitutional authority Akber was keeping a private army! Under which rule was he combating Armed Forces of Pakistan!! He died when one of his mercenary exploded the explosives resulting in the collapse of the cave where he was fighting from.
Shahryar Ahmed
Either Killed or died. Those were the only defender of Akber bugti against the power full army.
This is ridiculous...there was NO evidence to be lost...infact the Bugti family ought be vary with what the truth might be....there is no excuse for Treason. Period. May Allah Bless Pakistan and its citizens.
Cant we all see Mush is enjoying this tamasha very much?. If u cant, see his picture again in this article
This is only political victimization..... Musharraf can never be accountable for this killing... Bugti was terrorist..... and was challenging rite of the govt... Why Musharraf why not Prime Minister, Governor and other people......
akbar bugti was no saint as our media loves to portray all the time.he was fighting and killing our soldiers, his militants were killing punjabi civilians in balochistan in their campaign of ethnic cleansing. Why has never any of our anchors ever talked about the deliberate murders of punjabi civilians in balochistan by the baloch extremists? why no talkshows about the two lakhs punjabi civilians forced to flee their homes and businesses in balochistan?
Is the murder of a punjabi not a crime in today's pakistan??
u come and will got ur result.
It is another way of saying that there is nothing to prove against Musharraf. And his political opponents only intend to prolong the process and tarnish his image?
Pakistan is going to make a biggest mistake by letting musharaf go in this case...and making grounds to bring musharaf back
There was NO evidence to begin with. Murdur, got to be kidding me. Just 1 question I would like to ask Bugti's son, how many Bugti family (men) have died of natural causes & how many killed?
sad. Army is way more powerful than civilian/ judiciary.....now allah is the only hope for pakistan...
