LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned the Punjab police chief, chief secretary, home secretary and the head of Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) on Wednesday on different petitions about lawyers attack at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).

The petitions sought the release of lawyers, restraining police from torture, implicating in false cases and harassing them in the wake of attack at the PIC.

Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, while hearing the petition remarked that the Lahore Bar Association’s (LBA) president tarnished the image of lawyer’s community. “Why did you people (lawyers) go to hospital and why did you not proceed following law,?” Justice Naqvi asked.

A senior lawyer responding to Justice Naqvi’s remarks about LBA’s president, said the LBA president had been trying to stop lawyers from causing damage but they were incited by the humiliating remarks.

Lawyers walked for around one hour from Aiwan-e-Adl to the PIC but no loss occurred, adding it was the lacking on the part of the government that just rendered the role of silent spectator rather than dissolving the matter, Advocate Tarar further argued.

Doctors reject lawyers’ overtures over PIC incident

The courtroom was packed with lawyers while hundreds of lawyers were present outside the courtroom to express solidarity with the arrested lawyers. The security was also beefed up at the LHC to avoid any untoward incident.

As a whole, the lawyer’s community condemned this incident, said lawyers’ counsel advocate Azam Nazir Tarar. Tarar said police implicated those lawyers who were not the part of this incident.

“You just inform the court what sort of action you have taken against those 2% lawyers who earned bad name to the whole community,” Justice Naqvi asked.

Justice Naqvi remarked it was regrettable that no one amongst you is ready to hear you.

Justice Naqvi also summoned the Punjab advocate general by Wednesday (today) and ordered the head of the PIC will be heard in his chamber (judge’s chamber).
