QUETTA:
Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani has said that effective policies of the incumbent Balochistan government are yielding positive results as development schemes are being implemented in both rural and urban areas across the province.

He was speaking on Monday while laying the foundation stones of multiple development projects in the Jhal Magsi district headquarters of Gandawah.

“The government has been rapidly implementing the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) which will ensure relief for the masses across Balochistan”, Jam Kamal said. He also refuted opposition allegations that development funds had lapsed in the province.

Member of National Assembly (MNA) Nawabzada Khalid Khan Magsi, Provincial Minister Nawabzada Tariq Magsi and Balochistan Communication and Works (C&W) Minister Arif Jan Muhammad Hassani accompanied the Balochistan chief minister during his visit.

The chief minister also directed authorities to ensure timely completion of the Gandawah-Notal highway, adding the highway would ease the travelling woes of Jhal Magsi residents.

The chief minister also visited the public park in Gandawah and reviewed its facilities for visitors, adding the park would provide a healthy environment for women and children.

He also planted a sapling inside the park.

APS fifth anniversary

The Balochistan chief minister also paid homage Monday to the Army Public School (APS) martyrs, adding the massacre of innocent students would never be forgotten.

“We must remember their sacrifices for it is because of them that we are at peace today”, the chief minister said in his tweet on the fifth anniversary of the APS attack.

On December 16, 2014, terrorists had stormed the Army Public School in Peshawar with gun and suicide attacks and killed 140 innocent students inside the school’s auditorium.

“The nation salutes the martyrs and their families as they sacrificed their lives for the country”, Kamal said, adding that the carnage had united the nation against terrorists.

“The horrific day will be remembered as a black day in Pakistan’s history and the country’s armed forces have since purged Balochistan of the menace of terrorism”, he added.

Anti-polio drive

The chief minister urged parents to cooperate with vaccination teams during the current drive against polio.

In a message at the start of an anti-polio drive, Kamal also urged civil society, tribal leaders and scholars to play their role in eradication of the disease.

Pakistan is among the last three countries where polio virus still exists. Balochistan is particularly affected by the disease from where five cases have been reported so far this year.

In order to fight the virus, Balochistan Coordinator of the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Rashid Razzaq on Sunday announced launch of a 3-day anti-polio drive in all the 33 districts of the province.

Talking with reference to the campaign, Kamal said it must be ensured that the polio teams get access to every house and to every child during the campaign. “Ensure adequate security and access to all facilities to the district administration polio teams,” he directed the relevant authorities

He also called for establishing an integrated polio campaign monitoring system.

“Awareness campaign must be organised to highlight the harmful effects of polio and the effectiveness of the polio campaign in the community,” he said.

The CM said volunteers and affiliated organisation are a driving force behind the anti-polio campaign. The affiliated organisations are working on behalf of volunteers and the government team.

He said polio is a big challenge as it can disable children and thus endanger future of a community.

“We are facing a dangerous virus, which can spread and cause misery to the society. Parents must cooperate with polio teams by understanding the sensitivity of polio.  We have to win the war against polio, to ensure survival of our children,” Kamal said.

He said the government is firmly committed to eradication of polio and will achieve this target.
