Lahore Development Authority to expedite work on city project

File holders will have to deposit half of development charges

LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to expedite the construction of physical infrastructure in LDA City Phase-I for handing over possession of plots to the file holders at the earliest.

LDA Director General Sumair Ahmad Syed visited the project site along with senior officials of the authority, on Monday, to inspect ongoing development works being carried out on an area of around 5,000 kanals in the Jinnah Sector.

LDA Chief Engineer Habibul Haq Randhawa and Project Director Hammadul Hassan briefed the director general about ongoing development activities.

They highlighted that a new two kilometres long road will be constructed for connecting the Phase-I of the scheme to the LDA City Link Road that had already been constructed from Ferozepur Road to Defence Road. They disclosed that the authority has initiated the tendering process.

The authority has also announced that the file holders will have to deposit half of the development charges. Rates and schedule of payment of development charges by the file holders will be announced very soon.

A sum of Rs3 billion had been allocated in the current budget for executing development works in LDA City Phase-I.

Spread over 13,000 kanals, the phase-I of LDA City had been divided into seven packages for development. Currently work was in progress in Package I, III and IV and a three months deadline have been fixed for completing the ongoing development works.

LDA DG visited various locations in the scheme and reviewed the quality of development works being done at these places.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) had ordered the constitution of a committee to ensure the provision of land or payment of compensation to the file-holders of the LDA City. The court had issued this directive during a suo motu hearing held at the Lahore registry.
