In Mutlan, WASA to begin work on seven new schemes

Managing director says work on these schemes will be completed over period of three years

The work on seven new uplift schemes of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) approved, last year, under the Annual Development Programme (ADP), will start soon with an estimated cost of Rs7.072 billion.

WASA Managing Director Rao Muhammad Qasim told APP on Sunday that the provincial government had allocated Rs646 million for initial work during the fiscal year 2019-20.

The managing director said that the uplift schemes were in the tendering process, and stage, and work would be executed after completion of the process. The uplift schemes included, replacement of outlived sewer Phase-II at a cost of Rs2.129 billion, upgradation and environmental improvement of Chungi No 9 disposal station at a cost of Rs2.433 billion, replacement of outlived water supply lines and tube wells in Multan at a Rs1 billion.


Similarly, more schemes include water supply scheme for unserved areas of Multan at a cost of Rs500 million, sewerage scheme for unserved areas of Multan at a cost of Rs800 million, replacement of sewer lines of G/E block Shah Rukn-e-Alam, Sharifpura and others at a cost of Rs97.7 million and providing and installation of consumers water metres at a cost of Rs111 million.

The managing director further said work on these schemes would be completed over a period of three years. He highlighted that work on eight uplift schemes was in progress at a cost of Rs4.1 billion. “Work on most of the schemes is in the final stage which will be completed by January 2020.”
