SAHIWAL: Police claimed to have arrested the suspect in rape and murder of minor girl.

District Police Officer (DPO) Captain (retd) Mohammad Ali Zia held a press conference on Saturday regarding the rape and murder case of a minor girl Mariam and presented the suspect Ali Sher Changar in front of media. Zia said a four-year-old girl Mariam was abducted on December 2 from Hana Ghala Mandi Street 99 L while playing on the street. After the family reported the incident about the minor girl missing, Police Station Ghalla Mandi registered a case under abduction law, started search operations and later found the dead body of a minor near the bypass farms.

Man accused of ‘rape attempt’ forgiven by victim’s family

Police shifted the girl's body to DHQ for postmortem where the report revealed that the little girl was subjected to rape and sexual abuse. After the initial investigation, police arrested four men and sent their DNA for forensic tests.

DNA report of one of the arrested suspects matched with the sample and the culprit Changar was identified as the rapist and murderer of Mariam. The culprit was actually helping the police while searching for Mariam and is a close relative of the victim’s father Gulzar.

Changar confessed that he raped and murdered Mariam. Police have registered the cases against culprit under the charges of abduction, murder, and terrorism and further obtained physical remand after presenting him in the court.
