Theatre: Musical comedy Avanti opens

LAHORE: A modest crowd of college students and families attended the opening of the musical comedy Avanti at Alhamra Hall 1 on The Mall on Saturday.  The play, which has just come off a 12-day run in Islamabad, includes spectacular dance performances to major Bollywood hits such as Ore piya. Flora Mahmoud, a former teacher turned theatre director, said Avanti was based on Indian play Aja nach le, but with modern dialogue and themes.  Malik Taha, a member of the audience, said that it was one of the better plays that he had seen in recent times. “The coordination and dances were really good. Some of the actors had very unique and awkward characters to portray but they did a very professional job,” he said.
