IGP visits CTD, Special Branch headquarters
Says operations to eradicate terrorists and their facilitators must continue
LAHORE:
A day after communicating his policy guidelines in a high level meeting, the newly incumbent Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shoaib Dastagir has set on a visiting spree of different police formations on Sunday.
The IGP paid a visit to two important wings of Punjab police: Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) headquarters and Special Branch headquarters (Roberts Club).
During his visit at CTD headquarters, Additional IG (AIG) CTD Muhammad Tahir Rai while briefing said that there has been a 90% reduction of terrorism in the province during the current year and no sectarian-based terrorism has occurred in the province during the last three years.
He added that the terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Jahngvi has been completely swept away from the province whereas effective actions are being taken against Al-Qaeda and ISIS. He further briefed that during last the 11 months, 281 cases have been registered against terrorists and facilitators. “A total of 310 terrorists and their facilitators have been arrested.”
He further said that challan of 267 accused have been submitted into courts. “Among them, 136 accused have been awarded sentences by the court whereas the rest of the cases of the accused are under hearing.”
Five suicide jackets, 100kg ammunition material, 125 hand grenades, 200 detonator, 15 Kalashnikovs, multiple pistols and bullets have been seized from them, he highlighted. “A total of 173 accused have been arrested for providing financial support to terrorists and Rs12 million terror funds have been seized from them.”
Moreover, 61 terror financers have been awarded sentences by the court, he maintained.
