KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court accepted on Thursday a plea filed against the sentence awarded to a man convicted of killing a polio worker.
A two member-bench, comprising Justice KK Agha and Justice Zulfiqar Ali Sangi, announced the verdict on the plea, annulling the sentence awarded by an anti-terrorism court that found Afsar Khan guilty of killing a polio worker, Umar Farooq.
The bench remarked that the prosecution has not been able to prove the allegations levelled against Khan and annulled the trial court’s verdict, stating that the punishment was meted out to the accused “on the basis of suspicion.”
A case was registered against Khan at the Sohrab Goth Police Station in 2012.
