Protective measures: Health teams told to ensure maximum coverage

A three-day anti-polio drive will start from July 18 in Taxila and Wah Cantt.

Executive District Officer (EDO) Health, Rawalpindi, Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal directed vaccination teams to ensure administration of polio drops to all children up to five years of age. Polio monitoring cells are being formed at district level for day to day monitoring of emergency plans and to identify issues that require immediate action, he said.


District Officer Health Rawalpindi Dr. Khalid Randhawa said that from July 18 to 20 about 80,237 children would be vaccinated in Tehsil Taxila and Wah Cantt for which 114 mobile teams would conduct door to door visits. He also requested parents to make sure children less than 5 years of age, receive the polio vaccine during the three days campaign.


Pakistan is one of the four countries heavily suffering from polio; therefore the government is getting technical and financial assistance from WHO for elimination of this paralytic disease.

Deputy District Officer Health Taxila Dr. Shahzad Hussein briefed that Taxila is a polio free Tehsil though it is located on Grand Trunk Road and is very near K-P, which facilitates travel by road. That is why the health authorities are trying to minimize intra-country traveuntil the polio administration is completely carried out. He also added that one Campaign Support Person (CSP), four zonal supervisors, 22 union councils and ward in-charges would monitor the campaign in Tehsil Taxila and Wah Cantt.

Also teams have been designated to administer the drops in all Basic Health Units, THQ (Tehsil headquarter hospital) Taxila, cantt board dispensaries, OF hospital Wah Cantt and its allied dispensaries. Some transit teams have been deputed at a railway station, bus terminals, public parks and all exists of Taxila and Wah Cantt to administer polio drops to travellers and nomadic children.
