The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Sunday clarified that a notification circulating on social media platforms about the suspension of a telecom company's services in the country is “fake”.

In the notification, customers were misled to switch to another mobile network or consume their mobile credit before December 11, 2019, claiming that the services of the private company would no longer be available in the country.

“[The] PTA is aware of a false advertisement circulating via WhatsApp chat groups for users of a mobile operator. [The] PTA clarifies that the aforementioned advertisement is fake,” said the telecom authority on its official Twitter handle.

It also urged the users “to refrain from circulating it since it might generate confusion and inconvenience for consumers”.

“The public is advised to always check official information sources such as PTA's website at https://pta.gov.pk or its Twitter & Facebook page for latest news/updates.
