It Runs In The Family: Ovais Ali Amjad And Zunaira Ovais
Ovais Ali Amjad And Zunaira Ovais talk about their bond
Ovais Ali Amjad and Zunaira Ovais is a unique couple who inspire one another and encourage growth in their respective fields. Ovais is Lt. Colonel in Pakistan Army and Zuniara is a well known certified beauty technician based in Lahore. Despite their long distance relationship, their marriage is an example of how they make an effort to see each other as much as possible.
How and where did you both first meet?
Ovais: At her parents place, in the presence of both the families.
Zunaira: Ours was a totally conventional arrange marriage. Our families met through a mutual acquaintance at my father’s place. Ovais was also accompanying his parents. He saw me and according to him, gave his approval immediately, which was conveyed to my father by his family. Since I also liked him our match was made.
What did you like/ dislike about each other in your first meeting?
Ovais: I liked her beige dress and her innocent face.
Zunaira: To be honest, since we didn’t even get to talk to each other in that meeting, my decision was purely based on intuition and his physical appearance. I liked him since he appeared to be a decent and a gentleman and I’m glad that has proven to be true till now, except ofcourse in few odd cases.
How long did it take to decide that he/she was the one you wanted to marry?
Ovais: I decided immediately since, I liked her, ofcourse appearance wise since we didn’t get a chance to get to know each other through long, independent interactions.
Zunaira: It was instantaneous. I didn’t even spare a second in giving my acceptance when my dad asked me. I’m glad it proved to be a good decision. Thank God.
How do you demonstrate your love in different ways?
Ovais: It’d sound strange but I do that by being rude to her, hinting her that I’m trying to express love and she should understand the hidden message of love in my apparent rudeness. Sometimes I call her Alia Bhatt since she resembles her.
Zunaira: You’ll laugh at this; I quarrel with him and tease him to demonstrate my love for him. Initially he used to get flared up, but now, he knows what it means and responds with love and affection in an equally teasing way.
What frustrates you most about your partner?
Ovais: Mostly, it’s her habit of sleeping late, since I wake up early almost always and then I keep waiting for her to get up.
Zunaira: His habit of not letting me sleep a lot. I am very fond of sleeping but since I’ve started working in the field of aesthetics, it has reduced a bit. On the flip side, Ovais has a habit of waking up early, probably because of his profession, and then he keeps disturbing me to wake up even on holidays.
Who makes up first if you have a fight or argument?
Ovais: It’s her always.
Zunaira: It’s mostly me. Ovais is very rigid, probably because of him being a Scorpio. Although I’m also quite stubborn and don’t give in easily, but when the fight gets prolonged, I change my mind and try to make up with him, as I can’t see us being angry at each other for long.
One thing you love about each other?
Ovais: She is a very strong willed woman. Myself, I’m emotionally weak and tend to get hurt or sensitive over small issues, but she is the one who always gives me courage by saying “be a man” :). This makes me change my thoughts and actions and therefore I usually call her “strong pathan woman”
Zunaira: Our love for each other is strong, inspite of occasional misunderstandings and quarrels, we can never live without each other. This strength of our bond and the underlying understanding between us that we can never be separated from each other is the thing I love the most about him. And I’m sure he also loves the same resoluteness of mine towards making our relationship successful till death does us apart.
Something you two have in common?
Ovais: Nothing.
Zunaira: Nothing, to be honest.
Something you would want to change about your partner?
Ovais: Her habit of sleeping late at night and not exercising regularly.
Zunaira: His habit of waking up early morning.
Who keeps the room the tidiest?
Ovais: Myself, she’s quite careless, but I guess that’s usually expected out of a woman if she has responsibility of home and notorious kids on her too.
Zunaira: It’s Ovais obviously.
Your best memory together so far?
Ovais: At the start of our marriage, I was sent on duty to Multan, and I took her along. She is very careless in walking and keeps falling quite often. While we were crossing a busy road in a market in Multan cantt, I turned around and couldn’t find her with me. Then I realised she fell because of a manhole, that was hilarious. I still keep teasing her about that. When our daughter also falls frequently I say to her ‘beti kis ki hay aakhir’.
Zunaira: It couldn’t be any other occasion than our honeymoon. We were so dumb and silly, just trying to enjoy like kids. Ovais took his guitar along and tried to play it for me which he couldn’t do properly which was hilarious. I guess, that memory will stay in my mind forever.
Your greatest strength as a couple?
Ovais: Our steadfastness in adversity.
Zunaira: Our courage to face all odds together and stay happy in hard times is our greatest strength. No matter how bad the situation, we know how to cheer each other up and make a mockery of the situation, which is the best thing God has blessed us with.
Describe your relationship in three words?
Ovais: Made for each other!
Zunaira: Crazy, stupid love!
