Power shortfall almost 6000MW: PEPCO

Loadshedding up to 12 hours in urban centers, up to 16 in rural areas

The energy shortfall stands at 5825 MW in the country leading to up to 12 hours of loadshedding in urban areas and up to 20 hours in the rural areas.

According to PEPCO, the electricity production stood at 12881 megawatts , while demand stood around 18706 megawatts.  The shortfall has been attributed to lack of oil and gas supply to generators.

Urban areas of southern Punjab, including Multan, were facing power outages of 10 hours - while 16 hours of loadshedding was underway in rural areas.


In Balochistan, urban areas are facing power outages of up to eight hours, while the duration was 20 hours in rural areas.

In Karachi, which was receiving 740 megawatts of electricity from the national grid, still had to brave power cuts for up to six hours. People in other cities of Sindh have had to put up with 12 hours of loadshedding.

Businesses have been adversely affected by the power outages, resulting in loss of production capacity.
