ISLAMABAD:

An incident of a man being tortured to death was picked up by the Supreme Court of Pakistan for scrutiny here on Wednesday.

Chief Justice (CJ) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry directed Provincial Police Officer (PPO) Punjab to submit a report on a new report about Said Bibi. Bibi, in the story, appealed to the CJ that her son, Mobashir, had been tortured to death by some influential people; she registered an FIR but no one was arrested.

She said that her son and another man, Rizwan, were kidnapped on July 8, tortured and dumped outside her home. Both were severely bruised and unconscious. The two were taken to a hospital where her son succumbed to his injuries. Rizwan is under treatment at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad, according to the news report.

Bibi said she and her family were being harassed of “dire consequences” if she did not withdraw the FIR.

Chief Justice Chaudhry directed PPO Punjab to submit a report by July 22.
