KARACHI:
Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Law, Environment and Coastal Development Barrister Murtaza Wahab has directed the Sindh Environmental and Protection Agency (SEPA) to expedite action against the manufacturers and sellers of non-biodegradable plastic bags.

He issued the directive during a meeting on Thursday.

Addressing the meeting, Wahab said that more effective and efficient measures need to be taken against those involved in the manufacture and sale of banned plastic bags. He said that non-biodegradable bags cause environmental pollution and ban on the use of these bags, imposed since October 1, has been welcomed by the public.

Wahab directed the SEPA officials to take strict action against those violating the ban. To this, the officials complained of the lack of police cooperation in the operation against factories violating environmental laws. Addressing their complaints, Wahab called the Karachi Police chief and directed him to cooperate with SEPA officials.
