Army continue to struggle

Pakistan Navy hold KESC to a 1-1 draw in football league.

KARACHI:

Pakistan Army continued to struggle for form in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL), losing 3-1 to PIA, while Pakistan Navy held KESC to a 1-1 draw in Karachi.

Saddam Hussain scored the opening goal in the 31st minute as PIA led 1-0 at interval.

The nine-time national champions dominated the second-half as well, with Mohammad Zeeshan doubling the lead in the 58th minute. Army replied with Sharjeel Vicky’s goal eight minutes later but Zeeshan netted his second goal in the 82nd minute to seal victory for PIA.

Pakistan Army have had a hard time adjusting to the conditions in Karachi, losing to KESC in the first match, drawing against HBL and refusing to play against NBP due to the poor law-and-order situation near the venue.

“It has been a disappointing first-leg for us,” Army coach major Shafqat told The Express Tribune. “We will, however, make a comeback in the second-leg, which begins in Quetta on July 20. This has been our worst PPFL start in years.”

Meanwhile, Mohammad Khan scored in the 43rd minute to give KESC the upper hand at the interval. However, Navy’s Mohammad Ramzan netted the equaliser in the 57th minute.

In the last match of the day, Pel drew 1-1 against PMC Athletic in Quetta. Mohammad Ashraf put Pel ahead in the 36th minute, only for Mohammad Usman to level in the 68th minute. Neither side was able to convert their chances as the score-line remained 1-1.
