Rs17m grant for Sindh Seed Corp

The Sindh government, in its budget for 2010-11, has announced a grant of Rs17 million for the Sindh Seed Corporation.

The Sindh government, in its budget for 2010-11, has announced a grant of Rs17 million for the Sindh Seed Corporation.

The provincial government had revived the Seed Corporation last year and reserved Rs57.5 million for it.

In the 2010-11 budget, Rs21.04 million has been set aside for seven seed farms in Sindh. In the Annual Developmental Plan, the Sindh government has allocated Rs1.35 billion for industrial development. An amount of Rs138.7 million has been set aside for Sindh Small Industries Corporation, Rs1.19 billion for SITE Ltd and Rs500,000 for Directorate of Industries.


Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, in his budget speech on Friday, said besides establishing new industrial zones “we are taking steps to bring improvements in the old industrial structure. For the achievement of this objective, we have established industrial zones in Kotri, Nooriabad, Benazirabad, Larkana and Khairpur.”

He said: “In the next step we have planned to establish an industrial zone in Nausheroferoz near Thatta and a land bank has been set up for the purpose.”

He said the Board of Investment is working on the education city project, under which universities will be built on the outskirts of Karachi. Agha Khan Foundation has also devised a plan to build a university with an investment of $450 million, he said.
