Partial strike observed by traders

Businesses were shut till one in the afternoon

SARGODHA: Small traders rejected the call for a strike by the Anjuman Tajran in Sargodha district. All small markets remained open on Tuesday while a partial strike was observed at main markets in Sargodha city.

Reportedly, the Anjuman Tajran and the Sargodha Chamber of Commerce appealed to traders and shopkeepers to observe a strike against the imposition of a 17% general sales tax (GST) in Sargodha district.

In response, traders in main markets, including Katchery Bazaar, Karkhana Bazaar, City Road, Azad Road, Muslim Bazaar, Amin Bazaar and Liaqat Bazaar, observed a partial strike by shutting down their businesses till one in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, traders and shopkeepers in Fatima Jinnah Road, Bhalwal Road, Satellite, Noori Gate Bazaar, Khushab, University Road, PAF Road, Sabzi Mandi, Mohni Road rejected the appeal.

Because of the closure of main markets, people belonging to remote areas faced tremendous difficulty in the hot and humid weather.

Speaking to the media at Katchery Bazaar, Anjuman Tajran President Sheikh Nadeem Khawar said that the condition regarding the provision of ID cards during sales and purchase should be abolished.
