Energy company signs agreement with footwear manufacturer
Company will design, build, operate and maintain the solar plant for the duration of the contract
Yellow Door Energy, a leading distributed solar developer company in the Middle East, has signed its first agreement in Pakistan with footwear manufacturer Starlet Innovations.
According to a press release, the rooftop solar plant will provide over 1,000 megawatt-hours of clean energy and reduce carbon emissions by 690,000 kilograms annually which is equivalent of taking 150 cars off the road. It will also meet 50pc of Starlet’s energy needs.
Starlet Director Mohammed Younas said that the company needs to be competitive and innovative as it has been in footwear manufacturing for almost four decades.
Directives for promoting solar energy
“The solar plant will help us significantly reduce our electricity bills and lower our carbon footprint. We look forward to having our facility powered by the sun for many years to come,” he said.
Chief Commercial Officer of Yellow Door Energy Rory McCarthy stated that it will be the company’s honour to contribute to Pakistan’s 30pc of national energy target of renewable energy by 2030.
“Our power purchase agreement with Starlet is the first of many as we plan to invest $20 million in solar assets in Pakistan in the near future,” said McCarthy. “We congratulate Starlet for its forward-thinking initiative and sustainability leadership.”
According to the statement, the signed power purchase agreement will enable businesses to go solar without any upfront capital investment.
The company will design, build, commission, operate and maintain the installed solar plant for the duration of the contract.
