PM to lay foundation stone of Guru Nanak varsity on Oct 28
Minister says university will be an example of interfaith harmony and cultural and professional development
ISLAMABAD:
Interior Minister Ijaz Shah on Friday said Prime Minister Imran Khan would lay the foundation stone of Baba Guru Nanak University in Nankana Sahib on October 28.
“This university would be the first of its kind where there will be special focus on the subjects of Punjabi language and Khalsa,” he added.
The minister said the university would be an example of interfaith harmony and cultural and professional development.
“It will also serve as a community centre for Sikhs around the world.”
Shah praised the prime minister’s efforts for the protection and uplift of religious minorities in the country.
He said besides the university, other projects would also be launched in Nankana Sahib.
Separately while addressing the passing out parade of ASPs at National Police Academy in Islamabad on Friday, the minister said police were the first line of defense to deal with internal challenges including criminals and terrorists.
“It is only through dispensing justice that law and order can be ensured in the country.”
Shah said police was a very challenging and sacred profession and officers must show commitment and loyalty to their profession which would also help improve the force's image among the masses.
“However, the government has decided to hire more staff in the police department despite financial constraints.”
To a query, the minister said the Modi government was under pressure on the issue of occupied Kashmir because of the diplomatic efforts of PM Imran.
He hoped that the curfew in the IOK would be lifted in the near future and normalcy would return to valley.
The minister also said the government was bringing introducing madrassa reforms and adding new subjects including Mathematics, Science, English and History to their syllabus so that the students there could become a constructive part of society.
Speaking on economic reforms, Shah said the government was taking strict measures to stabilise the country’s financial position.
