ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking bail of Nawaz Sharif on medical grounds.

Nawaz Sharif’s health deteriorates amid low platelet count

“Nawaz Sharif must be allowed to undergo treatment within Pakistan or abroad as per his will,” said the petition.

The court has announced that a hearing on the petition will be conducted today.

Maryam moved back to prison

PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz was shifted back to prison on Thursday morning after spending a night in the hospital where she also met her father.

Condemning the move to shift Maryam back to Kot Lakhpat prison, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said the PML-N leader was sent back to jail at 5am and that she was still “unwell at the time”.

After meeting Nawaz, Maryam also fell sick. She was allowed to stay in a room next to the one where her father has been undergoing treatment.

On Wednesday evening, Maryam was rushed immediately to the hospital from Kot Lakhpat Jail after the Punjab Home Department granted her permission on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Earlier the same day, her request to visit her father for an hour was turned down by an accountability court.

The PML-N supremo was taken to Services Hospital from NAB’s Lahore office late on the night of October 21 after a decline in his platelet count.

Nawaz received transfusions of mega units of platelets at the hospital the next day. The government officials, as well as his party leaders, had told the media that he was in a stable condition after he underwent the treatment.

However, his condition grew worse Wednesday evening after Nawaz’s platelets count again fell sharply to a life-threatening level of 7,000.

Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid also met the former premier at the hospital and claimed in a news conference that “Nawaz was satisfied with the treatment”.
