Target killings: SHC issues notice for July 26

The federal and provincial governments and other respondents were put on notice for July 26 by a division bench of the High Court of Sindh (SHC) on Tuesday in a petition challenging the recent killings in Karachi.
The bench heard Rana Faiz-ul Hasan of the United Human Rights Commission (UHRC).
The petitioner said that in four days, 100 people died in target killings that were controlled in just an hour without a single shot fired by Pakistan Rangers when they were given the powers to control the situation.
Quoting figures collected by his NGO, he said that in six months 1,146 Karachi residents lost their lives to “unidentified gunmen”.
He prayed the court to direct the Sindh government to give full powers to the Pakistan Rangers. The petitioner prayed that responsible officers of government be summoned and be asked why they left the city burning for four days, during which innocent children also died in the crossfire.
