ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday chaired a flurry of high-level meetings to discuss issues ranging from efforts to control smuggling to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s legislation programme and its climate-friendly green agenda.
In a meeting with Law Minister Farogh Naseem and Shahid Naseem Gondal, the head of the Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF), and Special Assistant Naeemul Haq, Prime Minister Imran directed for expediting the legislation process.
The meeting deliberated on important legal and constitutional matter, including amendments to the accountability law as well as the ordinances. Imran directed the law minister that the new legislation must aim at public welfare.
The prime minister received a briefing on the appointment of new law officers in the country. Gondal also informed the prime minister about the dismissal of appeal filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi against his conviction.
Imran was also apprised of the reorganisation of the ILF. He assigned the task of the reorganisation of the ILF to Gondal. The meeting also discussed the party funding case, pending with the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The meeting on steps to check smuggling in the country was attended by Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Interior Minister Brig (retd) Ejaz Shah, Law Minister Farogh Naseem, Special Assistant Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan.
Also, Adviser on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam Khan called on the Prime Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and briefed him about the climate-friendly green agenda. This five-point agenda includes 10 billion tree, ban on plastic, electric vehicle policy, clean green index.
The prime minister agreed to inaugurate the Clean Green Index and clean green competition amongst 20 cities this month. He lauded the efforts of the Climate Change Ministry to focus on green agenda, which will place Pakistan on the path of ecologically sustainable development.
