7 things Prince William, Kate Middleton should do for a quintessentially Pakistani tour

Here are our suggestions

Asfa Sultan October 14, 2019

KARACHI: Now, we all know Kate Middleton and Prince William are due to land in Islamabad soon. But most of us are still wondering where all the Royal couple will go and how they are planning to explore the different parts of Pakistan.

The five-day tour, details for which are being kept under wraps due to security reasons, has been described as Kate and William's “most complex” one to date, due to logistical considerations. But that doesn't mean we Pakistanis aren't going to offer them our suggestions!

Ever since Kensington Palace first announced the tour, British-Pakistanis and those living here have been sharing their opinions as to what the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge should eat while in Pakistan.

According to Thomas Drew, the British ambassador to Pakistan, Kate and William are looking forward to observing "the breadth and depth of the country, the vibrant city of Lahore, the mountainous regions of the North and the rugged regions of the west." Vague much?

The real question remains: what should they do to get a real taste of Pakistan in five days. We've got a few ideas.

Eat lots and lots of desi food
Now, we know there are lots of desis in England and so, desi food is readily available across the country. But one cannot come to Pakistan and not indulge in all the many delicacies it has to offer, steeped in large amounts of ghee and spices that is, not even the Royals!

That's right! We may be facing water shortages, but our Mutton Karahi has more oil than all of UAE, and it is delicious! Also, let's not forget the lifeline of all Pakistanis everywhere: Biryani.

While they are at it, perhaps Kate and William can also enjoy some Chinioti Kunna, paired with Afghani Fries, Jalebi and Ras Malai. One thing's for sure: We can't let Kate go back so skinny.

Sip chai at a 'dhaaba'
Oh yes, what is a trip to Pakistan without masala chai? That too from a roadside dhaaba. For a nation of 197 million, approximately 80% of us are overdosing on tea (quite literally) and we don't even need to add Gochi for that.

Our tea is what makes us who we are, and the Royals will need to go bottoms up if they really want to blend in or have a real cultural experience.

Attend a big wedding

WEDDING-SONGS
Not that it's going to be possible but if anyone's planning on having an excessively large, Instagram wedding during the next few days, don't forget to extend an invitation to the British embassy in Pakistan. After all, if Kate and William really want to learn more about our culture, they have to see what our weddings are like.

From being pushed around in the que for food to flooding the tables with food to taking pictures of people who are having food! The Royal Wedding's got nothing on Pakistani weddings!

Play cricket

They already did this in India but let's be honest, our Prime Minister is a former cricket captain. Not to mention, maybe if they play on our grounds more, the English might begin to understand how we manage to beat them at their own game.

Wear shalwar kameez
Calling Kate! All you have to do is grab a Rizwan Beyg outfit like Diana did and flash that chamak in the eyes of desi aunties like you're ready for marriage, even though you already are.

As for William...well, he could turn from a British Prince to a Mughal raja real quick if he dons a sherwani from Amir Adnan's Alpha collection. What say?

Go hiking on the Margala Hills

In case the trip gets too hectic, the duo can always escape to the Margala Hills for a quick hike and a breathtaking view of Islamabad.

Unwind with a desi massage

Once Kate and William are back from the hike, they will surely need a spa day. So we recommend a solid desi massage, which they can get for much cheaper anywhere in Pakistan than back in London. Not that they need to worry about money but you know, for the culture...
