Two arrested for killing mother-in-law
Body exhumed from backyard of the deceased woman’s house.
MULTAN:
Two women were arrested on charges of killing their mother-in-law in Multan on Monday.
Gulghast police arrested the two on Monday when they were about to escape their in-laws house. The police also exhumed the body of 45-year-old Bakht Jamal. The two women, Naheed and Shaheen, had killed Jamal and buried her in the backyard of her home in Gulghast area.
The husband of the deceased, Israr, told The Express Tribune that he called Gulghast police after his daughters-in-law, Naheed and Shaheen, failed to satisfy him with their responses about the absence of his wife.
He told the police that for a couple of days the two had been telling him that their mother-in-law had gone to visit some relatives in another town.
“Whenever I or my sons asked them about Jamal, they would tell me that she will come the next day,” he said. On Monday, he said, he suspected the two were preparing to flee from the house and called police. He said his wife did not enjoy good relations with the two. He said Naheed and Shaheen drugged his wife eight days ago and killed her by slitting her throat.
He said the two had a quarrel with Jamal over a minor issue. He said he or his sons, Naeem and Majeed, were not at home when the incident took place.
The body was handed over to the family after paper work.
