Hum Awards 2019 fashion: From bad to worse
While many celebrities exuded traditional vibes, we have to wonder what some of them were thinking
KARACHI:
The 7th Hum Awards put on a show with some of our favourite celebrities donning their ensembles in Houston, Texas.
Preparations were in full swing as stars such as Mawra and Urwa Hocane, Iqra Aziz, Ayesha Omar and Hania Amir shared on social media their airport and transit pictures via social media, getting us all excited to see what outfits they will rock for the highly-anticipated event.
Glam, sparkles, green, white and purple were the main themes of the night, as well as desi vibes almost all round. However, many outfits were disappointing to say the least. While we appreciate a more traditional outfit approach to the event, we can only ponder over some of their style choices.
Let's take a look at some of the ensembles from the celebrities of the night.
Iqra Aziz
Oh dear, Iqra. The ruffles, the asymmetry, the bling, the hair is all too much. While we appreciate the Suno Chanda star's attempt to be experimental, this look missed the mark. The Nomi Ansari creation could've been better perhaps in a different colour, like champagne or nude. The interesting green shade could've been more elegant if it wasn't for the extra sparkles and ruffles but somehow it just seems like Iqra is attending a fancy dress party. The actor should remember the golden rule - less is more.
Mawra Hocane
Green is totally in right now and seemed to be the running theme of the night. Mawra got on board with the trend in this traditional ensemble which exuded almost mehndi vibes. The actor/model has put in a lot of thought into her outfits over the years and has really transformed her look, but there is something not put together about this ensemble. Seeming like a very last minute decision, Mawra could've added better statement jewelry and perhaps done something different with her hair. However, we like the back details of the dress as she soaked up some sun for pictures before the event.
Urwa Hocane
Been there, done that. While white always looks clean and fresh, the elder Hocane sister could've stepped it up. Looking super traditional, we liked her loose flowing hair and simple makeup. That's about all we can say about the ensemble, as nothing really stands out.
Ayesha Omar
Opting for a more Hollywood look, the actor/model took on glam luxe at the awards. However, the outfit was kind of old school. Perhaps if the colour had been a deeper red and different cut, it would've made more of an impact. However, we love how Ayesha rocked a sleek side part, making her look rather striking.

Hania Amir
Well, well, well. Hania showed up to the awards with rumoured boyfriend Asim Azhar, posing for a very cute picture. While we appreciate Asim's 'I love Kashmir' statement on his outfit, that's all we can really love about the ensembles. We expected more from the actor if sporting a sari, but it was just too predictable. While the 22-year-old is naturally gorgeous, such a strong purple (which could've been a hit) should not be combined with so many over-the-top sequins. Over all, there was no stand-out style choices of the night. We hope to see better next year.
