SSP says parallel parking has been introduced to provide relief to the masses

QUETTA: Without revamping the parking system in the provincial capital, the flow of traffic cannot be regulated and for this purpose, parallel parking has been introduced, which has provided relief to the citizens, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Nazeer Kurd said, while addressing a press conference in Quetta.

“We have asked the city administration to draw red parking lines on streets, after which, those crossing the lines would be fined up to Rs 10,000. This is the only solution to make citizens follow traffic rules,” he said

The SSP remarked that traffic police had restored signals at five points in Quetta.

Kurd said that the law of wearing a helmet was introduced last winter but bikers were still not obeying it.

“We have given one week to all bikers, after which traffic police would seize the bikes of those who do not wear a helmet.”

He told the media that bikers who do not follow the directives would be fined Rs 2500.

He urged the citizens to follow the rules and regulations as laid down by the traffic police and warned of strict action in case of violation.

Sharing the details of traffic police annual action plan, the SSP said that 529 non-registered bikes and vehicles had been confiscated across Quetta during last 10 months of 2019, while dark stickers had been taken off from 4190 vehicles.

“Following the directions of IG police, we have been taking action against those who do not follow traffic rules, while we have received total revenue of more than Rs20.2 million against 83,218 challans in 2019,” he added.

“Instead of using excise and taxation number plates, motorists in Quetta are using fancy number plates which is against the law.
