Boxing: Ramos knocks out Shimoda
Ramos flattened the 26-year-old southpaw with one punch.
ATLANTIC CITY:
American Rico Ramos knocked out Japan’s Akifumi Shimoda in the seventh round to win the World Boxing Association super-bantamweight crown. Ramos flattened the 26-year-old southpaw with one punch, a powerful left hook to the jaw that sent Shimoda to the canvas. Shimoda tried to rise but at the count of nine stumbled down to the mat again. “I can’t believe it,” said Ramos. “I didn’t think the hook was going to land. I didn’t think I was going to knock him out.”
