Seasoned campaigner dethrones defending champion Shabbir Iqbal to become new champion.
KARACHI:
Experienced golfer Mohammad Muneer claimed the Sindh Open Golf Championship, outplaying defending champion Shabbir Iqbal at the Arabian Sea Country Club.
The seasoned campaigner from Islamabad ended the third round with a par 72 but owed his win to a fiery beginning where he carded a spectacular 66 and 67 to end the three-day competition with a total of 205 - 11 under for the championship.
Delighted at the win
“It’s a good feeling to win the event,” said the 36-year-old. “I was in good form on the first two days despite the strong wind.”
Lanky Ansar Mahmood secured the runner-up spot with rounds of 66-72-72 to finish the 54-hole competition with a total of 210.
Shabbir Iqbal, the defending champion, had to be content with third spot with total of 212. The golfer hit five birdies and three bogeys on the final day.
