Inaugurates 2.82-megawatt hydropower project for Pakpattan

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has given priority to solar energy, hydropower and windmills projects to produce cheap environment-friendly electricity and help reduce the import bill.

The chief minister expressed these views during his visit to Pakpattan and Bahawalnagar on Friday. During his visit to Pakpattan, Buzdar inaugurated projects worth billions of rupees including a 2.82-megawatt hydropower project for the city.

He inspected various sections of the hydropower plant besides laying the foundation stone of the new grain market. During this visit, the CM also initiated the rehabilitation and expansion project of 9.9-kilometre road from Dillowala Pull to 46-EB and 13.2-kilometre road from Sanday Khan Road Rampura to the district limits of Okara.

The chief minister inaugurated expansion and rehabilitation of 8.6-kilometre road project from Sahiwal-Pakpattan Road Pull Bahiwal to DM Road Pull Joriyan.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Pakpattan Hydropower Project, the chief minister said Pakistan was blessed with natural resources and the goals of development could be achieved by correctly utilising these resources.

Buzdar said one of the largest integrated irrigation networks was available in Punjab and expressed the satisfaction that 2.82-megawatt electricity was being generated through this power project having an annual production capacity of 21.67-gigawatt electricity units. Around 10MW of electricity would be generated through Marala Hydropower and Dek Outfall projects. Both the projects will be completed soon, he added. He said that 20% of the total energy production will be generated through alternate energy resources within the next few years.


He pointed out that schools were already being transferred to solar energy.

The chief minister also announced the construction of 10-kilometre Pakpattan to Sutlej River Road. He said the Punjab government would complete eight mega projects in Pakpattan with an amount of Rs2.19 billion. During his visit to Bahawalnagar, the chief minister presided over a meeting at the DC Office to review development schemes, law and order and anti-dengue programme. Addressing the meeting, the Buzdar said 75-kilometre Bahawalnagar-Hasilpur double road would be completed with an amount of Rs10 billion. Similarly, Rs370 million will be spent on an 8.5-kilometre road in Minchinabad.

The chief minister also visited DHQ hospital Bahawalnagar where he inspected the facilities being provided to the patients. He suspended the MS and ordered an inquiry against him over dereliction of duty, corruption and maladministration.

He announced to establish a cardiac unit in the DHQ hospital with sufficient funds to be provided on a priority basis.

Chief Minister Buzdar also paid a surprise visit to Minchinabad tehsil on Friday on his way to the provincial capital. It was the first-ever visit of a chief minister to this backward tehsil. He expressed his strong indignation over heaps of garbage and filth and directed to suspend Minchinabad chief officer. He also took notice of dilapidated police station building and directed to take steps for the construction of a new PS building.
