Rs17b to be spent on 66 schemes

The highway department will spend Rs17.85 billion on 66 road schemes. Around Rs9.71 billion were utilised till June for completing 15 schemes. During the current financial year, Rs1.59 billion were allocated for these schemes and so far Rs390 million were released. A meeting of the highway department, chaired by Labour and Human Resource Minister Ansar Majeed Khan, was held on Wednesday. The meeting also informed that two new schemes were approved under the Annual Development Programme and Rs600 million was the estimated cost allocated for these schemes. Under the Naya Pakistan Manzilain Asaan Programme, Rs623 million would be spent on six schemes. The minister stated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) government was making efforts to lay road infrastructure for the masses to connect rural areas with urban areas. He stated that funds were also being released for the construction of Sargodha-Lahore road and Sargodha-Jhang road. He also stressed on removing all encroachments from mains roads.
