Sindh govt bans spitting, littering in public
Impose Section 144 to discourage open littering on streets, beaches and outside houses
In line with its ongoing cleanliness drive, the Sindh government has imposed a ban on littering, spitting and throwing debris of damaged structure on roads throughout the province.
The initiative is taken to discourage open littering on streets, beaches and outside houses, according to a notification issued by the Home Department on Wednesday.
Spitting pan in open without dustbins is also strictly prohibited according to the notification, which declares the practice of throwing litter on the roads from running vehicles illegal and violators, from now on, will be penalised with hefty fine.
Karachi among world's 10 least liveable cities
With an aim to fight garbage that is haphazardly thrown on streets, the provincial government will exercise its powers under section 144 for 90 days with immediate effect.
Earlier on Monday, Sindh Information Minister Saeed Ghani announced a reward of Rs100,000 for anyone who identifies and films miscreants involved in deliberately littering roads and choking sewerage lines in Karachi.
The city is purposely flooded with heaps of garbage and moves like these are a way to counter such deliberate acts, he added.
