Two ‘TTP men’ arrested near Lyari Expressway

KARACHI:
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the Sindh police claim that they have arrested two Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan commanders during a raid on Friday and seized explosives and weapons from their possession.

Officials of the CID’s Anti-Extremist Cell said that the two TTP commanders Inamullah Mehsud and Sajadullah Mehsud were arrested near the Lyari Expressway after a raid was conducted following a tip-off. During the raid, two-and-a-half kilogrammes of explosive material, 20 metres of detonator wire and two TT pistols were also seized, added the officials.

Inamullah is said to be a local commander of Waziristan while Sajjad is the TTP Karachi commander for the Sohrab Goth and Banaras areas.

During the initial course of interrogation, the accused revealed that they had kidnapped and later released an Afghan NGO official in North Waziristan after receiving a ransom of Rs4 million.

“Four suicide bomb jackets were brought to the city from Waziristan with one suicide bomber to attack the city,” the accused told the investigators, adding that the man in charge of the operation is now in Waziristan.
