Police sacrifices to restore peace acknowledged
Lt Gen Bajwa says police enabled resumption of economic activities
QUETTA:
Outgoing Commander Southern Command Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa on Friday said the sacrifices rendered by police in Balochistan had brought economic activities back on track in the province.
“The Balochistan police are our assets, who have rendered the most sacrifices against terrorism, in maintaining law and order and safeguarding the lives of citizens,” Lt Gen Asim said while addressing a farewell lunch in Quetta.
"Balochistan is on the track of prosperity and we stand together to defeat our enemies", he added.
Balochistan CS Capt (retd) Fazeel Asghar, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Hyder Ali, FC IG North Syed Fayyaz Hussain Shah, FC IG South Major General Saeed Ahmed Nagra, IG Police Mohsin Hassan Butt and other officials attended the ceremony.
Lt Gen Asim said the 630km fencing on the border of Afghanistan and 30km on the border of Iran had been completed in a short span of time.
He said the Balochistan police had become a target in the war against terrorism but they had bravely fought to end this scourge. The army official said police were contributing with other forces towards ensuring stability in the region.
“All our forces are making collective efforts and now the enemies will have to think again before carrying out any terrorist attack.”
Lt Gen Asim said Quetta was hit by cross-border terrorism. “The situation is gradually improving as fencing on borders with Afghanistan and Iran has been completed.” The outgoing commander Southern Command said he was proud to have spent the last moments of his career in Quetta.
