WASA teams to help solve DG Khan’s sanitation issues

Teams will submit their recommendations to the chief minister

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Teams of the Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) in Multan, Lahore and Faisalabad will extend their assistance to solve sewerage issues in Dera Ghazi Khan.

This was announced by Dera Ghazi Khan Division Commissioner Riaz Malik at a meeting and media briefing conducted at Circuit House on Saturday.

“WASA teams will work with the public health office and within the next month, the city will begin to see improvements in terms of sanitation,” he said. Five rickshaws have been donated by a local company to assist the district administration in picking trash from the area. An additional 12 rickshaws will be delivered within the next few days.

He explained that a sub-office of WASA Multan has been established in Dera Ghazi Khan. Around 89 drivers will be hired by the contractors.

On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, teams of the Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) have begun working on finding a solution for the sewerage issues being faced by citizens. Addressing a consultation meeting held at Circuit House DG Khan, South Punjab Public Health Engineering Department Chief Engineer Shahid Azhar said that all possible efforts will be made to resolve the sewerage problems being faced.

The main sewerage line in Dera Ghazi Khan is approximately 200 kilometres long and there are 11 disposal stations working across the city. The team is closely reviewing all phases and will begin working from September 23 (tomorrow). The team will also submit its recommendations to the chief minister.

Additional Commissioner Azfar Zia stated that the purpose of calling experts from Multan, Lahore and Faisalabad to Dera Ghazi Khan was to find an effective and permanent solution to sewerage issues being faced in the city.

He maintained that the Punjab CM has given permission to recruit the required workforce for two months in order to solve the sewerage problems in the district. “Ghost employees of the municipal corporation will be fired from the department and new recruits will be brought in,” he said. WASA Faisalabad Director Adnan Gul, Municipal Corporation CEO Iqbal Farid and others were also present at the occasion.
