Chile draw, Peru win at Copa America
Sanchez scores equaliser in lacklustre game.
MENDOZA:
Alexis Sanchez enhanced his growing reputation, scoring the equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Uruguay to ensure Chile stayed in control of Group C at the Copa America.
Sanchez, who is reportedly to be close to a move to Barcelona, levelled for his side after Alvara Pereira’s opener. Uruguay went ahead in the 54th minute but Sanchez levelled 11 minutes later, shooting into the bottom corner.
In the second game, Peru defeated Mexico 1-0 to all but secure qualification to the next round, with Paolo Guerrero scoring the only goal of the game. Peru made an impressive start, but it was Peru who began to dominate.
Diego Reyes created the opening and Guerrero converted to secure the win for his side.
Chile and Peru, each with four points from two games, are strong favourites to progress, while Uruguay, with two points, are likely to need a win in their final game if they are to progress.
