PPP chairman deems PM Imran Khan 'a liability for the Kashmir movement'

Hours after the arrest of senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Khursheed Shah by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday, party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari flayed the government over the timing of the move, claiming it was a ploy to sabotage the united front of political parties on Kashmir.
"Look at the timing of his arrest...we needed to demonstrate a united front right now to the international community in view the Kashmir situation," he told a press conference in Islamabad.
He said Shah's arrest was an attempt to divert the public’s attention from its 'failure' over the issue of Kashmir, terming the prime minister a liability to the freedom movement.
India on August 5 unilaterally revoked Article 370 of its constitution, which granted special autonomy to occupied Kashmir. Since then, a communications blackout and heavy restrictions on movement are in place in the occupied valley.
Bilawal said the party had devised its protest strategy, making inflation and economic situation the basis of protest.
The PPP chairman said party leadership had also deliberated in detail electoral reforms to address issues pertaining to discrepancies faced in the 2018 general elections. “Before addressing these issues, there is no point demanding fresh polls in the country,” he said.
He said electoral reforms must be brought through legislation for free and fair polls.
