ISLAMABAD:
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Monday said the Kashmir issue was not a political matter rather it was an issue of Pakistan's survival.

Addressing the Kashmir Solidarity Conference organised by the Mashaikh and Ulema Council Pakistan, she said Prime Minister Imran Khan has strongly advocated the cause of Kashmiris on all international forums.

“Prime Minister’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly would be historic,” SAPM Firdous Ashiq Awan said. “He will represent the sentiments of the Kashmiri people.  The nation is proud that it has a brave leader like Imran Khan, who countered the propaganda of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Kashmir issue.”

Dr Firdous urged Pakistanis to realise that complete unanimity of views on the Kashmir crisis is vital to give a clear message to the world. The nation is witnessing the role political leadership is playing in this regard, she added.

“Millions of Kashmiris across the Line of Control are struggling for their right to self-determination and Pakistan has presented their narrative to the whole world,” she mentioned. “In the war of right and wrong, evil forces have to bite the dust.”

Stressing the need for a collective strategy, Special Assistant to PM affirmed that the Indian repression on the people of Kashmir is nearing an end, and for achieving that target, all schools of thoughts must unite. She said a large number of Kashmiris resided in her constituency, which was the worst victim of cross-border Indian shelling.

Dr Firdous further said the joint statement of Ulema and Mashaikh's Kashmir Conference would give an effective message to the international community.    Thanking them for backing the national narrative on Kashmir issue, she recalled how Ulema and Mashaikh played an important role during the Pakistan Freedom Movement and now have also gathered for the Kashmir cause.

“Entire world community is expressing grave concerns over Indian state terrorism in the occupied valley,” she added.

Terming the joint statement of Human Rights Council meeting and the communiqué of the OIC as Pakistan's diplomatic victory and India's worst defeat, Dr Firdous said Kashmir issue was discussed by the United Nations Security Council after over 50 years, which was another landmark achievement for the country.

The European Parliament, she said, also discussed the issue, which was a positive omen.

Hoping to see Kashmiris attain their freedom from a long period of Indian subjugation, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister strongly affirmed that Pakistan is incomplete without Kashmir.
