Police officials suspended over allegations of backing drug dealer

Malir police SSP has ordered an inquiry against errant cops

Malir police SSP has ordered to suspend and initiate an inquiry against police officials found to be involved in providing patronage to a drug dealer, Rehman Gul, who was arrested by Sohrab Goth police on Saturday.

In a video statement that has surfaced, Gul has confessed to selling hashish and heroin, during initial investigation. He has also revealed that several police officials used to visit him after every two to three days, and he would pay each of them Rs3,000. Gul has identified Shahid Aslam, Meraj, Ashiq Buledi, Constable Mumtaz and Raja Sarfaraz as some of the officials who used to visit him. He has also said in his statement that apart from these officials, three to four unidentified police officials visited him too.


According to the Malir police representative, Malir SSP has ordered to suspend the accused police officials and start an inquiry against them immediately. He also revealed that the video of Gul's statement, which has gone viral, is a month old and that Gul is currently in jail.

The police representative said that Gul has been to jail previously too and was arrested from Sohrab Goth on Saturday. He is the son of Shireen Bibi, a terrorist, he added. He said that Sohrab Goth police SHO was suspended two days ago after being accused of providing patronage to drug dealers.
